The dentona story: Modern dental technology from Dortmund
The trade magazine "ZWL Zahntechnik Wirtschaft Labor" (OEMUS MEDIA AG) has published a great insight about us and presented the path of dentona AG. We share the most important aspects of the article here in our blog. You can find the full article as a PDF at the end of the post.
A micrometre often makes the difference between good and perfect - this attitude has characterised dentona AG since the early 1980s. What began as a specialist for dental plasters has developed into an important partner for modern dental technology. The company is now opening another chapter with its new headquarters in Dortmund.
From dental plasters to digital solutions
The first big step was taken in 1989: dentona launched esthetic-rock, the first resin-based super hard dental stone. Another milestone followed in 2009 - a special dental stone with zero per cent expansion, still unique today. When digital development reached the dental industry, dentona reacted early: since 2011, the claim "New Way dental technology" has marked the beginning of a systematic reorientation.
The new headquarters as a meeting place
Since 2024, the new headquarters in the west of Dortmund has combined development laboratories and production facilities for CAD/CAM materials on 5,500 square metres. "Dental technicians today are looking for ways to optimise their processes," explains dentona CEO Carsten Wilkesmann. "Individual devices or materials are not enough. Coordinated and consistent workflows are needed."
Products for daily laboratory work
The product portfolio combines proven and new technologies:
- The optiprint line offers solutions for all common dental 3D printing applications
- Precise grinding and milling materials for everyday laboratory work are created under the optimill brand
- The collaboration with Aidite brings proven zirconium oxide technology to German laboratories
- The Leipzig site continues to produce high-quality dental plasters
Stronger together
dentona works closely with experienced partners: ASIGA and RapidShape (3D printing), imes-icore (milling technology) as well as Shining 3D (intraoral scanners) and smart optics (laboratory scanners) "Our decades of experience in dental materials science also help us today in the development of digital products," says Carsten Wilkesmann.
Practical application meets development
In the new training centre, dental technicians can experience and test the entire range of current technologies for themselves - from the scan to the finished workpiece. Specialists from development and application come together here to jointly shape the dental technology of tomorrow.
dentona AG shows how a medium-sized family business can further develop dental technology by striking the right balance between the tried and tested and the new, between down-to-earth craftsmanship and technological progress - day after day, micrometre after micrometre.
